Ancient Chinese Healing with Marijuana Seeds

Ancient Chinese Healing with Marijuana Seeds

Months before Jade Goody’s death from cancer, the tabloids pictured her tucking into a bag of marijuana seeds. Jade had heard that they had been used in ancient Chinese medicine as a cure for cancer and feeling that she had nothing to lose, decided to try munching hemp seeds in between her chemotherapy sessions. It’s not just cancer that marijuana seeds have been known to cure. All the ailments below can be cured with hemp seeds and whilst most parts of the hemp flower have been used in medicine it is the seeds that contain the most effective components for long term health.

Childbirth Aid

Munching on marijuana seeds is said to alleviate the pain of a difficult delivery and help out during postpartum recovery. A packet of hemp seeds can also bring on an overdue birth or help with blood deficiencies during pre or post-pregnancy. The ancient Chinese have also been known to use hemp seeds to alleviate retained placentas in mothers that are just beginning to breast-feed and to help increase the milk flow.

Anthelmintic

Anthelmintic is a term given to drugs that help destroy and dispel parasites, including worms, in the body. It is thought that marijuana seeds have these properties and they are therefore prescribed to patients suffering from worms and parasites.

Anti-inflammatory

Next time you come up in a painful rash don’t reach for the anti-histamines or anti-inflammatory medications. Hemp seeds are said to be an effective anti-inflammatory and work in soothing or reducing inflammation.

Antiseptic

If you’ve cut your hand or have a nasty looking blister on your feet then marijuana seeds are said to be an effective antiseptic; so get munching! The seeds can stop sepsis occurring and are said to prevent bacterial growth.

Anti-atherosclerotic

Hemp seeds can break up long standing problems with the blood flow and restore the blood, pulse rates, veins and arteries.

Menstrual Problems

Marijuana seeds are believed to be able to treat many different types of menstrual problems. However, they are most commonly used in ancient Chinese medicine as a corrective cure to help regulate periods.

The Aftermath of a Stroke

Zhong Feng is a neurological impairment that occurs as the result of a stroke. One of the symptoms is excess sweating and hemp seeds are commonly prescribed to help deal with this side-effect.

Ulcers and Sores

Most homeopathic medicines that are used to treat ulcers and sores contain marijuana seeds somewhere in the ingredients.

Demulcent

Hemp seeds have demulcent properties and can be used to soothe, protect and nurture your intestinal membranes. This means that marijuana seeds are often recommended to patients suffering from Crohns disease or Ulcerative colitis.

Constipation

Hemp seeds relax, loosen and stimulate evacuation of the bowels; therefore the seeds are commonly used to treat constipation. Even in today’s modern China, hemp seed oil capsules are still the most commonly prescribed remedy for constipation.

High-Blood Pressure

Marijuana seeds are recommended for patients suffering from high-blood pressure as munching on hemp seeds is said to be able to reduce blood pressure.

Car Donation: Donate a Car and Save on Taxes

Car Donation: Donate a Car and Save on Taxes

Do you have a used car that you do not drive anymore? That old vehicle may be filling up and using up so much space in your garage. No matter how you assess it, you cannot think of any other good use you can have for the old car. Did you know that you can make them more useful? Why not consider car donation?

For quite some time, car donation has been a good and widely adopted practice. There have been numerous car owners who face the problem of disposing their old cars. Selling can be a good option but doing so may incur additional and costly charges in the form of taxes.

You do not want your old auto to fill the junk shops do you? Through auto donation, you are helping charities and institutions get on and raise further funding for the humanitarian initiatives.

There are still other reasons why owners of old cars would rather do car donation these days. The government is offering hefty and attractive tax breaks for every car donation.

While it is true that you would not generate any income or revenue from donating your car to a charitable institution, some people still are not aware that auto donation is rewarded by the government through the appealing tax incentives given to donors.

If you decide to take a car donation initiative, you surely would be able to save on taxes. As you know, every car donation has specific and appropriate procedures. The most usual is that you fill out forms and provide basic documentary information and details to the charitable institution, which would be your car donation’s beneficiary.

Those documents would not only facilitate voluntary surrender of ownership. Such documents also act as information source for the procedure of tax incentives to be provided to the donor.

Think about it. You are entering into a win-win situation when you decide to go to a car donation procedure. You are filling up a noble role of helping out other people in dire need, while at the same time you are helping yourself generate huge savings through the tax break package provided with the car donation transaction.

If you are planning to donate an old car, it is time you start the procedure by calling up different charitable institutions of your choice. There are numerous charities to choose from. You may choose by sticking to an advocacy, say assistance for cancer patients or funding aged care centers.

By communicating with such charities you would be instructed on the right an appropriate procedure on how to get on with your car donation.

What’s more? Car donation is now made more convenient. You may not need to drive the old car to the charity. Personnel would be sent by the institution to pick up or tow the car.

All you have to do is to wait for those people, surrender your key and accomplish the necessary documentary papers. After that, you are all set to voluntarily transfer the ownership of your old car to the chosen charity.

Cancer Research and Funding

Cancer Research and Funding

Besides this, his cancer was caught in the later stages after it had already metastasized. He had a couple of things going against him back then. However, there is no doubt that had he faced this problem today, he would still be alive. That, alone, just goes to show you how much cancer research has been done over the last several decades.

Years after my grandfather’s death, my grandmother discovered that she had a lump in her breast. When she went to the doctor, they determined that she did, in fact, have breast cancer in the one breast and immediately gave her a short round of radiation while removing the cancer from her body. Now, at almost 80 years old, she is alive and well. But, would this have been the case if she had had this problem decades ago? I shudder to think about it.

Nowadays, there are so many more options for those who receive a diagnosis that finding out you have cancer doesn’t necessarily have to be something that throws you completely off your normal, day-to-day routine. Look at someone like celebrity, Patrick Swayze. Before his untimely death due to pancreatic cancer, he never once let his cancer diagnosis hinder him from doing what he wanted. Right up to the end, he was still fighting for a cure for cancer as well as fighting to raise awareness for more cancer research so that others behind him might one day have a better chance at treatment as well as a cure. Currently, there is no cure for pancreatic cancer. And this is just one of many other rare types of cancers that is often terminal due to lack of research.

Making a difference in increasing cancer research stems mostly from funding. Research for cancer is often expensive and intense, requiring the use of many technical tools as well as expertise from those who have spent countless hours studying medical journals and conducting independent experiments. Therefore, much of the effort comes from fundraising that is done by everyday people like you and me. Something as small as purchasing a pink or purple ribbon key chain to raise cancer awareness among others counts because monies from the purchases you make and fundraising efforts you bring in goes towards one day finding a cure for cancer.

Scientists Conduct Clincial Trials of Peritoneal Mesothelioma Treatment

Scientists Conduct Clincial Trials of Peritoneal Mesothelioma Treatment

Researchers recently published the results of a study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology detailing a potentially new treatment for patients of abdominal mesothelioma that will likely improve the condition for patients.

The study found that when patients suffering from abdominal mesothelioma were given a combination of two drugs, Alimta (pemetrexed) and Gemzar (gemcitabine), their condition improved. The following are the results of the study:

* Response rate among patients was 15 percent.

* The control rate of the disease for patients while on the medication was 50 percent.

* The median time to disease progression was 10.4 months.

* The median survival time was 26.8 months.

* The mesothelioma study involved 20 patients suffering from the condition.

In addition to the two drugs, the patients received dexamethasone, folic acid and vitamin B12. The study was conducted by researchers involved in a multi-center U.S. trial. Researchers expect to continue studying the drugs?ffects on abdominal mesothelioma patients to determine if the treatment can be improved.

What is Abdominal Mesothelioma?

Abdominal mesothelioma is an extremely rare form of mesothelioma cancer. Commonly described as peritoneal mesothelioma, the cancer affects the abdominal lining, which is also known as the peritoneum. Within the abdominal cavity is the serous membrane, which is also known as the parietal peritoneum, and this membrane continues on to the visceral peritoneum that lines the organs. With abdominal mesothelioma, the visceral and parietal peritoneum linings are affected with the development of cancerous cells.

Most often, abdominal cancer occurs when an individual first develops pleural mesothelioma, which is when the lining of the lung develops cancerous cells after inhalation of asbestos. Pleural mesothelioma can then spread to the peritoneal cavity and cause peritoneal mesothelioma, which accounts for less than one-third of all mesothelioma diagnoses.

How is Peritoneal Mesothelioma Contracted?

Abdominal, or peritoneal, mesothelioma is caused through the inhalation of asbestos fibers or asbestos dust. Asbestos is a material that is derived from vermiculite, a mineral that was mined heavily in the United States and around the world in the 20th century. Asbestos was most commonly used as an insulation within the construction industry because it was flame resistant and was developed at inexpensive prices.

An array of mild to severe mesothelioma symptoms exist, including:

* shortness of breath.

* inability to breath.

* fatigue.

* wheezing or severe cough.

However, many of these symptoms are generalized to overall cases of mesothelioma. Specific symptoms exist for those diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma. These symptoms are as follows:

* weight loss.

* abdominal swelling, which can be caused by ascites or the buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity.

* bowel obstruction.

* fever.

* anemia.

* blood clotting.

* trouble swallowing.

* swelling of neck and face.

Abdominal Mesothelioma Treatment

Abdominal mesothelioma treatments commonly consist of surgical procedures to remove the infected cancerous areas. Often, the main surgery involved with peritoneal mesothelioma is known as cytoreductive surgery. While many individuals will receive specific treatments based on their case, the surgery usually is coupled with a chemotherapy treatment — this treatment is often called the perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy and has been shown to slightly improve the median survival rate.

Obtaining Peritoneal Mesothelioma Legal Help

Individuals who have been diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma or any similar form of mesothelioma cancer are advised to locate an experienced mesothelioma attorney. Individuals who have been exposed to mesothelioma should contact a medical professional immediately because of the dangers that exist to even limited exposure to asbestos. These individuals may be able to receive monetary compensation for the extremely costly medical bills associated with abdominal mesothelioma.

It is especially important for an individual to seek legal counsel for their mesothelioma lawsuit if they were an employee within the metal, mining, maritime, construction and welding industries.

Can You Recognize Breast Cancer Symptoms?

Can You Recognize Breast Cancer Symptoms?

If you learn to recognize what the breast cancer symptoms are, you empower yourself to find out what’s going on with your body. You might find out it’s not cancer. You’ve lessened the burden of worry because you recognized a possible symptom, and bravely forged ahead to get diagnosed.

If you do you have cancer, you have a much better chance reaching the goal of recovery and long-term survival than if you’d put it off.

If you can learn to identify symptoms you can often help friends and family by giving the extremely valuable gift of early detection and diagnosis.

The Breast Lump

If you perform self-breast exam, eventually you’ll find a lump. Is it a lump, or just normal “lumpiness,” many little benign lumps in both breasts? Breast lumps that suddenly occur need to be checked. Usually the smaller the lump, the better. The size of the lump may determine prognosis.

If a lump is found to be cancerous, what are the most common diagnoses? It could be a precancerous lump, such as ductal carcinoma in situ and less commonly, lobular carcinoma in situ.

The common types are invasive ductal carcinoma (about 80% of invasive cases), and invasive lobular carcinoma.

A Few Other Breast Cancer Symptoms

Dimpling of breast skin (“orange peel” appearance) is a symptom. Dimpling is caused by edema that surrounds a cancerous lump, which pulls on the skin.

Swollen or painful lymph nodes in the armpits or just above the collar bone signal possible cancer. Retracted, enlarged, scaly or itchy nipple, or even spontaneous change in sensation of the nipple may also be a sign.

Nipple discharge, especially on one side and bloody, yellowish or green, is a symptom in 4% of the patients with this symptom. Most women do have some kind of normal nipple discharge if the breasts are squeezed.

Constant pain on one side is sometimes a sign of breast cancer. Cyclical pain on both sides, caused by hormonal flux, is not a sign.

Asymmetry can be a symptom of cancer.

Breast skin redness, warmth and/or swelling can mimic non-cancerous infections or may be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer. If the infection doesn’t get better after a round of antibiotics, see your doctor.

In men, any breast lump, pain, or other change should be checked by a doctor.

Bone pain, significant weight loss, swelling of one arm, or ulceration of skin may be symptoms of advanced cancer, or may signify another condition. Diagnosis is essential.

Who Do I Ask?

Ask your family doctor. Your doctor may send you to a surgeon for biopsy, or if no lump is present, an oncologist.

What if you don’t have any symptoms? You must use the most current screening recommendations for your age.

With breast cancer, knowledge is power. The earlier you recognize a symptom and get diagnosed, the better.

Lifestyle changes are causing Cancer! by Medimanage.com

Lifestyle changes are causing Cancer! by Medimanage.com

What do female rockers Sheryl Crowe and Kylie Minouge have in common with the late television actrors Priya Tendulkar, Jade Goody, Patrick Swayze and cycling legend Lance Armstrong, other than the fact that they are famous? They all have been victims of Cancer at some or the other time in their lives! While some lost their battles against Cancer, others have come out victors and proud survivors.

Cancer as such is highly unpredictable, with around 200 types of Cancers having been indentified till date we are yet to find a complete and total cure for it. If that piece of news scares you, here’s something scarier for you, your Lifestyle can now cause Cancer too! Surprised? So were we, but on taking a closer look at our 21st century lifestyles, we found that there was nothing to be surprised about!

What is this 21st century lifestyle?

Even though the 21st century has a fancy sound to it, there’s nothing fancy about it. Sure it has given us a plethora of inventions that have made our life easy and bearable, medicines and treatments which have resulted in an increase in our life spans! But at the same time we have had to contend with increased environmental pollution, hectic lifestyles and stressful work conditions etc, which have all contributed to the shortening of our life expectancy! Comparing lifestyles with our 1950s counterparts, we would be surprised at how high our chances of developing cancer are! A study conducted by University of Illinois Medical Center stated that globally, there has been a whopping 44% rise in cancer occurrences and this figure is likely to increase with every passing decade.

With its advent, the 21st century has gifted us carcinogenic triggers such as Trans fats, free radicals, chemical pollutants along with newer brands of cigarette’s, artificial sweeteners, obesity due to lack of activity and many other such triggers for Cancer!

How is our lifestyle causing Cancer?

There has been a huge change in our lifestyles since the 1950′s. Back in the 50′s life was slow, as compared to today less hectic, people were far more active then and diets were healthy too! Indians have undergone a drastic lifestyle change in the past few decades. We now have cars which have greatly reduced our physical activity, an increase in number of smokers and junk food along with Trans fats have replaced our healthy traditional diet! Industrialization has seen pollution and free radicals enter our air streams and chemical effluents from various factories are making our water unfit to drink. All these factors are posing a very serious threat to our health, that of Cancer!

Here’s a closer look at some of our current lifestyle factors, which can lead to Cancer

Increase in Sugar consumption

Ever heard the saying “Sugar feeds Cancer”? Well, it’s true! Cancer cells need Glucose to thrive and with our increased sugar intake we are providing nothing but fuel to them! We Indians love indulging our proverbial sweet tooth with an alarming regularity by means of the Mithai’s or our daily Chai, the gajar ka halwa, thereby increasing our risk of developing Cancer. To cut down our risk of Cancer, we need to control our glucose levels by watching our diets, exercising regularly and through prescription medicines.

Salty much?

The recommended intake of sodium for any adult over 18 years of age is 6 gms, again our salt thirsty taste buds with their excessive need for salt push have pushed up our daily intake to an alarming 8-12 gms per day! This high sodium content in our diet increases our risk of Stomach Cancers. Salt consumption can be controlled by watching the amount of salt we consume in our daily diet and by avoiding junk food!

Junk Food is just that, Junk!

A heartfelt advice to our fellow Indians would be, to trash that junk food. A major outcome of lifestyle changes experienced by India is the rapid increase in Junk Food consumption. Junk food, fast food, street food is all the same when it comes to excessive use of salt, sugar, trans fat and preservatives like MSG- used to add flavor, sodium nitrites-used to give color and preserve the food, Food dye’s or edible colors along with Potassium Bromate are known to cause cancers in humans when consumed in excess!

Unhealthy Diet is really unhealthy!

Today a major lifestyle change has found us Indians eating out regularly. Foods like Pizza, burgers, pasta, pav bhaji, Chinese has replaced our traditional nutritious fare! Our body requires anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals and enzymes to fight Cancer, instead by eating out we are consuming more Trans fats, preservatives and other carcinogenic substances! A well balanced diet which will boost our immune systems against Cancer should contain more of vegetables (preferably green leafy vegetables) along with foods high in anti-oxidants and less or red meats and foods laced with preservative.

Chemicals, they are everywhere!

Industrialization has been responsible for the presence of chemicals everywhere around us. In a 1978 report by the U.S President’s Council on Environmental Quality states that most researchers agree that 70 – 90 cancers are caused by environmentally present carcinogens! From Chlorine present in the water to cancer causing chemicals present in cosmetic products such as benzyl acetate, methylene chloride etc, we even have cancer causing chemicals, present in the air that we breathe, released by the exhaust fumes from our cars! Let’s not forget

With the high levels of air, water and soil pollution we have in India, it’s no wonder that we have some of the highest incidences of Cancer in India! To read more Lifestyle changes are causing Cancer! by Medimanage.com

Fighting the Cancer Battle

Fighting the Cancer Battle

You may not know how long you have to live. If you are older, you may worry about your finances, your job and who will take care of you when you are no longer able to care for yourself. The first thoughts in our heads are usually ones that are negative. However, this doesn’t always have to be the case.

When you look at someone like Patrick Swayze, who recently lost his battle to pancreatic cancer, he fought his cancer with a ferocity that most of us couldn’t even muster up when we are well. Rather, discovering that you have been diagnosed with cancer doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Rather, there is ongoing research taking place that is working hard to find a cure for this disease. There are plenty of things that we can do on our own to help both ourselves and others in their fight against cancer.

The next time you want to get involved in the fight for a cure against cancer, look no further than your own computer screen. If you simply Google the term ‘cancer’, there are tons of websites, blogs and support groups that show up. Additionally, there are numerous ways to get involved in the fight for a cure such as purchasing items such as designer t-shirts, jewelry or other unique products. The revenue that is generated from something as small as a silicone bracelet in support of cancer goes towards cancer research.

Every day, we get a little closer to finding a cure for different types of cancers. What’s even more reassuring as well as incredible is the fact that we have already found a cure for many types of different cancers already. This fact alone gives other people who have been diagnosed with cancer, hope that they, too, will one day experience the joy of living a life that is cancer free surrounded by those who love and care for them. By looking at cancer more objectively and showing an outpouring of support, it is the hope of many that one day cancer will be akin to nothing more than the common cold.

How Far Has Your Mesothelioma Cancer Spread?

How Far Has Your Mesothelioma Cancer Spread?

Doctors often rely on knowing the different stages of mesothelioma to be able to effectively treat this type of cancer. Like most other cancers, this type of cancer passes through different stages as the disease advances, these different stages have significant bearing on the type of treatment that will be prescribed and on the most likely outcome of the disease.

The various mesothelioma stages generally indicate how far the disease has progressed beyond its original point of origin. Localized mesothelioma is diagnosed when the cancer has not spread beyond the membrane (most often the lining of the lungs) in which it originated. If the cancer cells have spread beyond this lining to invade the lungs, chest wall cavity or other body organs it is considered an advanced mesothelioma stage, which is much more difficult to treat.

Beyond this informal localized vs. advanced classification, four distinct stages are recognized by each of the two most widely used mesothelioma staging systems. One system, the TNM staging system, is used most often in progressive cancer treatment centers and is recognized by the American Cancer Society as the most accurate mesothelioma staging system.
The other, the Butchart Staging System, is the most common system for staging cancer in general.

Butchart Mesothelioma Stages

The Butchart system classifies mesothelioma cancer into four different stages depending on the stage of the main tumor mass.

? Stage I – Cancer is only seen in one side of the chest lining, or pleura

? Stage II – The mesothelioma has spread to any one of the chest wall, esophagus or heart or the lymph nodes of the chest

? Stage III – The cancer has invaded the diaphragm and the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneal cancer) or has spread to additional lymph nodes in the body

? Stage IV – Mesothelioma has spread to several major organs The Butchart staging system has been replaced largely by the TNM system for classifying mesothelioma cancer stages.

TNM Staging System

TNM stands for Tumor, Nodes and Metastasis; three keys to determining how advanced mesothelioma cancer is using this system. T stands for the extent of the tumor, N for how advanced the disease is in the lymph nodes and M for the extent of spread of the cancer into other organs.

? Stage I – Mesothelioma is restricted to the pleura of the chest and has not spread to other areas.

? Stage II – The cancer has spread to the pleural lining and to the outer lining of the lung or into the lung itself.

? Stage III – In addition to the pleura, mesothelioma spreads to part of the chest cavity behind the breast bone or within the chest wall. This stage also usually includes cancer of the lymph nodes.

? Stage IV – The most advanced of the mesothelioma stages, when cancer has spread to major organs or the bones or brain. Metastasis refers to the generalized spreading of the cancer.

Each individual case of mesothelioma is different and these stages are not the only factors that determine the type of treatment and the prognosis of the disease. Other factors come into consideration.

Male Breast Cancer

Male Breast Cancer

Male breast cancer is rarely found, not even 1% of the total breast cancer cases are of men. Nevertheless, the occurring rate male breast cancer is less compared to women yet the disease have a lot in common for both.

The most occurring breast cancers or the major types of breast cancer are the same for men and women. Nearly 90% of the male breast cancers exist in the ducts or lobes. Out of these 90%, 75% are ductal carcinoma. Ductal carcinoma is the one that develops in the cells lining the milk ducts. Around 30% of the male breast cancers are lobular carcinoma found in both breasts. Lobular carcinoma is cancer that develops in the lobules.

Most of the male breast cancer cases are of IDC (invasive or infiltrating ductal carcinoma). This is a type of cancer that spreads outside of the duct and makes way into the surrounding tissues.

Male breast cancer that has not spread to other areas is called ‘In Situ’. ‘In Situ’ is rarely found in men. The course of In Situ and its treatment is dependant upon the starting spot of the cancer. According to the latest research, doctors recommend that DCIS which is ductal carcinoma in situ should be surgically removed in order to stop it from moving to other areas of the breast.

Male breast cancer usually develops in men over the age of 60. As in women it can occur at a young age too, men are thankfully away from it. However, as it is a known fact that breast cancer in women was not that common some centuries back and as the world modernized the percentage of breast grew rapidly. No such change has been observed in the rise or fall of male breast cancer but nevertheless it can happen therefore it is better to take the necessary precautions.
